After a big 17-0 opening day win at Centennial on Monday, the Forrest Lady Rockets returned to the Field of Dreams at Chapel Hill on Wednesday where they beat Eagleville 10-0 in five innings.

“It was a slow start there with our 1-2-3-4 hitters, but our 5-6-7 came along and picked it up,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “I feel like when we have to take batting practice in the Fieldhouse it affects our vision when we get out here, believe it or not, so if we can get outside and take batting practice I believe we will do a better job at the plate.”

It was a homecoming game as former Forrest great Brianda Elmore coached her first varsity game for Eagleville and after a solid start by the Lady Eagles, Elmore watched as her former team posted the run-rule win.

Jasmine Runk had a huge game at the plate for the Lady Rockets, going 3-for-3 with three triples and three RBI, while Forrest’s lone senior Samantha King tossed a one-hit, eight-strikeout shutout in the circle.

“I was very pleased with Runk’s performance, so I’m very proud of her,” Cheatham said. “Sam pitched well, we played well defensibly, but I’m just a little disappointed with our hitting.”

Jasmine Runk drills the first of her three triples in the contest.

After a scoreless first inning, Forrest scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second as Katlin Leverette singled with one out and scored on Runk’s first triple of the game.

Runk scored the second run when Ally Blanton reached on the first of three errors in the game for Eagleville.

There was no scoring in the third inning and King set down Eagleville 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth before Forrest posted four runs in the home half of the frame.

Samantha King tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out eight in the Lady Rockets’ win versus Eagleville.

Leverette started the rally again with a leadoff walk and came home on Runk’s second three-bagger of the game to make it 3-0.

Ally Blanton followed with a sacrifice fly RBI and Kennedy Gillespie walked to start another Forrest rally.

Twin sister Kayla Gillespie ripped a double off the center field fence to make it 5-0 and she trotted home on a bunt single by Emma Stacey and an Eagleville error on the throw home.

The Gillespie twins had a big day versus Eagleville as Kennedy (left) had one hit and an RBI and Kayla (right) had two base knocks and one run batted in.

Abby Harris led off the top of the fifth inning with Eagleville’s only hit of the game, but two batters later, Forrest catcher Carson Warner gunned down Harris, trying to steal third with two outs.

Leverette reached on a hot shot to start the bottom of the inning and for the third time in the game, trotted home on a Runk triple, making it 7-0.

Runk scored as Kennedy and Kayla Gillespie knocked back-to-back one out singles to put the twins on the corners.

Kayla Gillespie stole second before a pop-up to shortstop for the second out and Anna Blanton and King drew back-to-back bases on balls, making it 9-0.

Kayla Gillespie came home on an Eagleville infield error the ended the game.

After a doubleheader yesterday at home versus Fayetteville, Forrest (2-0) hosts Community tonight at 5 p.m.
