LMS is proud to announce three essay contest winners. Seventh graders in Mrs. Melanie Wiles’ class entered the annual “Why is agriculture important?” essay contest sponsored by the Tennessee Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom and the Tennessee Farm Bureau Women.

The winning essay written by Taylor Dodson reminds us that agriculture is an important part of our Christmas, Halloween, and Easter celebrations and that those agricultural products (Christmas trees, pumpkins, and eggs) all impact our economy. Dodson is also the county winner, and her essay will be entered at the state level.

Israel Hurt was the second place winner with an essay explaining how agriculture is an essential ingredient in our homes. Hurt shares that “wooden floors, soap, clothing, and the food we eat” are all agricultural products.

Austin Kelley placed third with his essay describing how agriculture “benefits us from food to sports, education, and medicine. With the help of agriculture, people have the essentials to not just survive but thrive.”
