National Peace Officer's Memorial Day

Wednesday, May 17, 2017
Chapel Hill Poiice Chief Andrew Kon, Marshall County Sheriff Billy Lamb, and Lewisburg Police Chief David Henley mark National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day Monday on the square in Lewisburg. The day was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to honor officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Two Lewisburg officers have lost their lives while on duty, Billy Blackwell in 1975 and Gene Leverette in 1978. Blackwell’s daughter, Pam Wells, assisted in the placing of a memorial wreath to mark the occasion.
