Marshall County Youth Trap Team garners region awards

The Marshall County Youth Trap Team (MCYTT) travelled to the Nashville Gun Club on Saturday to compete in the Scholastic Clay Target Programís Region 2 trap shooting competition.

The varsity squad led by Bryce Brown and Even Lindsey with Lauren Fox, Aaron Luttrell, and Austin Proctor finished as region runner-up, shooting a combined score of 477-out-of-500, 14 hits behind first place Coffee County (491).

The junior varsity team picked up two awards with the JV3 team led by Tyler Bennett, Hunter Wentzel, Tanner Reese, Seth Foutch, and Branden Davis coming in third place, while the JV1 team made up of Bennett, Wentzel, Jeffery Haynes, Reese, and Branden Davis also finished third.

Ladies Varsity shooter Lauren Fox shot lights out, hitting 96 targets out of a 100 to finish in fourth place and Faith Kennedy had a big showing as a newcomer to the MCYTT as she finished in fourth place overall in the Junior Varsity Division, nailing 81-out-of-100.

Other top finishers from the MCYTT were Bennett, who came in fifth place overall with a 97 score and the Lewisburg duo of Marty Herndon and Nathan Batte, who came in seventh and eighth place respectively in the Intermediate Division. Herndon hit 91 targets and Batte nailed 90.

The MCYTT practices and holds its team matches at the Henry Horton State Park Skeet and Trap Range.
