The Lewisburg Elks Lodge #1990 continued their late-season hot streak with a tough 5-1 win over Nichirin Tuesday night at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in Lewisburg.

The Elks (6-1) have won four games in a row since losing to Marshall Medical Center (6-1), who picked up a forfeit win over Nichirin on Wednesday.

The two first place squads have spilt a pair of games this season and have one more matchup remaining.

Preston Shelton continued his stellar season versus Nichirin, picking up the win on the mound and going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Shelton tossed 4.2 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits and striking out 10 before Matthew McCormick came in and did not give up a hit to earn the save.

Tilden Jackson had both hits for Nichirin with a pair of doubles and Thomas J. Beardsley drove in Jackson with a second inning fielder’s choice RBI.

After Shelton pitched a scoreless first inning, the Elks opened the scoring in the home half of the stanza as Shelton banged a leadoff single, stole second and went to third on a Nichirin error before scoring on a sacrifice fly RBI by McCormick.

Shelton retired the first two batters in the top of the fifth before issuing back-to-back walks to Carson Osborn and Christian Stacey.

McCormick came to the hill and got an inning ending strikeout to put out the fire.

Bryson Whaley had an RBI double in the fifth inning for the Elks.

McCormick singled with one out in the bottom of the inning and went to second on a ground ball before scoring on a Bryson Whaley RBI double, making it 5-1.
