Youth baseball headlines weekend in Lewisburg

All-Star baseball is in full force this weekend with four state tournaments beginning tonight in Lewisburg as the Marshall County Youth Baseball and Softball League hosts the Cal Ripken 6U, 7U, and 8U all-stars at the Richard Cashion Sports Complex.

The Marshall County 6U all-stars open up pool play versus Clay County on Field 3 at 6:30 p.m. tonight with opening ceremonies to follow.

The 6U boys play South Williamson at 2 p.m. on Saturday before bracket play commences.

Other teams participating are Lawrenceburg, Giles County, and Donelson.

The Marshall County 7U all-stars also open up at 6:30 tonight versus Hendersonville on Field 1 and take on Lawrenceburg at 2 p.m. on Saturday to wrap up its pool play schedule.

West Nashville, Giles County, and Maury County are also travelling to Lewisburg for the six-team state tournament.

The 8U all-stars host Maury County in the first pool game at 6 p.m. on Field 2 Friday night and play West Nashville at noon on Saturday.

Crossville, Hendersonville, Giles County, Fentress County, Donelson, and Lawrenceburg round out the other squads that will vie for the state title.

All three age groups play the state championship games on Sunday.

There is also a 14U Babe Ruth State Tournament at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in Lewisburg with pool play beginning today at 4 p.m. when Lebanon takes on Lawrenceburg in the state tournament opener.

Opening ceremonies take place after the game and at 7 p.m., the Marshall County all-stars host Mt. Juliet.

The five-team double elimination tournament that also includes Tullahoma continues with four games on Saturday and the state championship game is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday.

The Marshall County Babe Ruth League will also host the 15-year old state tournament next weekend.
