13-year old all-stars fall at Lebanon

The Marshall County 13-year old all-stars travelled to Lebanon for the East Tennessee State Tournament and went 1-2 to end its postseason run.

Marshall County lost 3-2 to Lawrenceburg in the opening round Thursday night before bouncing back with a big 10-2 win over Giles County on Friday.

On Saturday, Marshall County and Lawrenceburg met again and this time the score was not close as Lawrenceburg’s Ayden Luffman tossed a three-hitter and struck out seven in a 13-0 shutout win over Marshall County.

Bryson Smith also went 6-for-11 and a .545 batting average in the Babe Ruth East Tennessee State Tournament at Lebanon.

In Thursday night’s loss to Lawrenceburg, Marshall County had six hits with Bryson Smith and Carson Cheek (RS, HBP, SB) coming up with two hits apiece in the contest.

Blake Moreland and Hunter Bennett (2B, RBI) had one hit apiece and John Morgan Thomas had one RBI.

Cheek took the loss on the mound in a solid performance, tossing a five-hit complete game in which he gave up two earned runs, struck out five and walked two batters.

The Marshall County bats came to life on Saturday as they banged out 11 hits in the 10-2 win over Giles County.

Cheek led the way again, going 4-for-5 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Smith (2RS, RBI, BB) and Thomas (2B, two RBIs) had three hits apiece and Grayson Miller (2RS, BB, SB) had one safety.

Bennett walked four times, stole a base and scored twice, Brayden Bowyer walked three times, scored twice and knocked in two runs, and Tristan Griggs drew two bases on balls and had one RBI.

Griggs picked up the win on the mound for Marshall County, tossing 2.1 innings of shutout baseball, while Miller and Thomas followed Griggs to the hill in the win.
