Murder suspect held on $750,000 bond

A man shot a local woman Sunday night in the Mooresville community in western Marshall County.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. July 16, a call came across the police scanner reporting a shooting. Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene at 3050 Mooresville Highway in reference to a report of a woman being shot.

Once on the scene, deputies found 57-year-old Mona Lisa Olive with a gunshot wound to the upper left chest. Mrs. Olive was transported to the Marshall Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. At that point, detectives with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department were notified.

Jeffrey Olive, 54, from Iron City in Lawrence County, was charged with criminal homicide and is currently being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

Heritage Funeral Home in Columbia is handling the funeral for Mrs. Olive, and notes that no specific arrangements have been made as of Thursday July 20. The funeral home also stated on their web site that Mrs. Olive “passed away unexpectedly... at her residence.”

Jeffrey Olive has at least one previous arrest. He was arrested on Christmas Day 2006, for public intoxication in Giles County. At the time, the man was 6 feet, 4 inches tall and weighed 230 pounds. His most recent arrest lists him as weighing 180 pounds.

Marshall County Sheriff’s Detective Tony Nichols reports that “the investigation is still ongoing.”
