CMS Bulldogs take down Blanche in season finale

The Cornersville Middle School Bulldogs (5-3) finished the season with a three-game winning streak, capped off on Saturday at Lincoln County High School with a 38-12 win over Blanche to claim the Pioneer Division title of the newly formed Elk River Valley Conference.

Rhett Woodard had a huge game, rushing for 177 and four touchdowns for the Bulldogs, who trailed 12-0 in the contest before scoring 38 unanswered points versus their namesakes from Ardmore.

Quarterback Elijah Pitts had a pair of 2-point conversion runs and a pass for two more and Hunter Dye came up with a touchdown run and a 2-point conversion.

The CMS defensive unit pitched a second half shutout in the Pioneer Division title game.

The Elk River Conference Championship is made up of 10 teams divided into two divisions. Highland Rim, South Lincoln, Blanche, Flintville and Unity make up one division. South Giles, Moore County, Cornersville, Richland and Huntland make up the other.

South Giles won the first Elk River Conference championship with a 38-18 win over Highland Rim.
