Cornersville competes at state championships

After finishing third as a team in the Region 6 Regional Tournament, the Cornersville cross country team competed in the TSSAA State Championships as both a team and individuals in just the second year of the program coached by Amanda Putnam.

As a team the Lady Bulldogs finished 13th out of 20 overall teams.

After finishing six overall at the region tournament, Sorrell Martin had the best effort in the teamís individual with a time of 25:21 to finish 46th overall out of 183 runners.

The Lady Bulldog runners dash off the starting line on Saturday at the TSSAA cross country state tournament at Percy Warner State Park.

The remainder of the runners finished as follows:

Hannah Hinds, 27:21, 88th

Emma Mitchell, 28:30, 100th

Hannah Hagood, 31:10, 123rd

Elizabeth Taylor, 32:53, 133rd

Brooke Calahan, 32:54, 134th

Lily Wright, 35:11, 152nd

Bulldog runner Luke Ledford finished with a time of 20:43 to finish the day in 84th place out 179 total participants.

The Cornersville boys cross country team, coached by Ben Putnam, just missed qualifying for the state as a team, finishing one spot off in 4th place, but sophomore Luke Ledford finished 4th in the region to qualify for state.

Ledford finished strong with a time of 20:43 for an 84th finish out of 179 runners.
