Program honoring Sister Mamie Mayes

Friday, November 17, 2017

Sunday, Nov 19, 11 a.m. Liggett Street Church of God, 824 Liggett Street, Lewisburg, will be celebrating the life and commitment of church member, Sister Mamie Mayes, as she retires from the church’s catering ministry. There will be a program honoring her and a celebratory dinner after our morning worship service.

Sister Mamie Mayes was born to Sally Anne and Milton Evans on December 9, 1939. She is the youngest and sole survivor of twelve children and a lifelong resident of Lewisburg. She is the widow of Brother Fred Mayes who passed away in 2008. They were married for 45 years. Their union produced 3 daughters that completed their blended family. Together they raised 6 daughters, and 1 son, who passed away in 1993. They also had a stepdaughter that was raised in Columbia and later moved to Memphis. Sister Mamie and Brother Fred were blessed with 18 grandchildren, 40 great- grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Sister Mamie enjoys cooking, tending to her plants, and being there for those in need. She enjoys fellowship with her Liggett Street Church of God family and hearing the word of God. For years she enjoyed working in the kitchen at the church and making sure everything was just right for special events. Her church home fulfills her and makes her happy. One of her greatest pleasures is to have all her family around her enjoying a meal that she has prepared for them.
