Thomas Sewell Cathey

Thomas Sewell Cathey, 91, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017, at NHC Lewisburg.

Mr. Cathey was a native of Marshall County and was the son of the late Thomas Leonard and Rhoda Sewell Cathey. He served in the Army in World War II as a tech sergeant with the 805th field artillery battalion. His unit began in France and helped push the Germans back to and beyond the Rhine River. At the end of the war, he stayed another year to help occupy Czechoslovakia. He graduated from MTSU and pursued a banking career, serving as a bank officer for Peoples and Union Bank and later First Federal Savings and Loan. He was a youth baseball coach, Boy Scout leader, an avid golfer and tennis player, winning the Marshall County Open in both tennis and golf. He also worked many years as a surveyor. He was the last surviving founding member of the Lewisburg Elks Lodge. Mr. Cathey was a member of the Lewisburg First United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Trigg Cathey and sister, Gerry Cathey Rutledge. He is survived by his two sons, Trigg (Barbara) Cathey of Lewisburg and Leonard (Ruth) Cathey of Franklin, TN; three grandchildren, Tricia (Connor) Schutzman, Mary (Zach) Pratt, Jack Cathey; and one great granddaughter, Wiles Schutzman.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Lewisburg First United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Lone Oak cemetery.

The family will be at the funeral home for visitation on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and on Friday they will be at the Lewisburg First United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.
