Winter trout stocking begins Nov. 28

Friday, December 1, 2017

NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is scheduled to begin the 2017-18 Winter Trout Stocking on November 28. It’s a program is designed to give anglers an opportunity to fish during the cooler months of the year.

Winter trout stocking began in Nashville in 1999 as a way to bring a trout fishing experience to urban areas. This year hatchery trucks will visit over 40 locations, from November to March, stocking close to 100,000 trout ranging from 8 – 12 inches in length. As an added bonus for this season the Flintville Hatchery has 150 albino trout, received from Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery, that have grown out to 19-20 inches. One or two of these 2 ˝ to 3 pound fish will be released at each location the Flintville trucks visit.

This is a great time to take children or first time anglers fishing. If you would like to take advantage of this winter trout opportunity you can find the stocking schedule at tnwildlife.org under the “for anglers” tab. Dates and times for each stocking are subject to change and will be updated on the website.

Anyone fishing at the winter trout stocking locations is required to have a valid fishing license along with a supplemental trout license.
