Samuel Eugene Renegar
Samuel Eugene Renegar was born on Aug. 6, 1925, and passed away from cancer in Lincoln Regional Medical Center on Dec. 22, 2017, at the age of 92.
Mr. Renegar graduated from Morgan Prep School in Petersburg, TN and United Electronics Laboratories in Louisville, KY. He farmed in Lincoln and Marshall counties, worked for Kraft Foods in Fayetteville, was a machine operator in the Linton Pencil Mill Box Factory in Lewisburg, did trouble-shooting and repair work for the Wurlitzer Organ Company Factory in Corinth, MS, and operated the Radiflow Machine for Spaco, Inc. in Huntsville, AL. He retired in 1988 from the maintenance crew of the Amana plant in Fayetteville.
He was particularly proud to have been part of making history in the NASA Space Program by testing the components for electronics onboard the rockets used to land men on the moon, and in fact, some of the parts he tested remain on the moon in the hardware left behind by the NASA astronauts who landed there.
He was past President of the Highland Rim Civitan Club, a member of the NRA, and he was a volunteer with the Lincoln County Museum. A family heirloom jacket worn in the Civil War by his great grandfather Lafe Taylor as a Confederate soldier is in the War Memorial Museum in Nashville, TN.
Mr. Renegar served many years as an elder and Sunday school teacher for the Prosperity Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included: photography, fishing, hunting, camping in an RV, gardening, and family genealogy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Carl Dee Renegar; mother, Vivia Eugenia Taylor; sister, Rita Coreen Renegar Davis; daughter, Anita Joyce Renegar; grandson, Patrick Renegar; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernard Davis, Jeriel Pack, Butch and Aloise Sowell, Odell and Ruth Williams Pack, and Juanita Pack.
Mr. Renegar is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sara Frances Pack Renegar; sons, Ben (Janice) Renegar of Fayetteville, TN, Cecil Renegar of Taft, TN, David (Teresa) Renegar of Tyler, TX, Larry Renegar of Taft, TN; brother-in-law, Meriel Pack of Petersburg, TN; sister-in-law, Alice Crabtree Pack of Lewisburg, TN; grandchildren, Catherine Renegar Fisher, Amy Renegar (Brad) Scott, Eric (Becky) Renegar, Brandon (Laken) Renegar, Chad (Rachel) Renegar, Christina Jenkins (Ray) Pruett, Michael (Caye) Renegar, Jenny Beth Renegar; great grandchildren, Elizabeth Renegar (Cody) Phillips, Vivian Fisher, Nicholas Fisher, Aubrey Scott, Landon Scott, Emma Renegar, Haley Renegar, Avery Renegar, Bryson Renegar, Kaylea Renegar, Gavin Renegar, Gabe Renegar; great-great granddaughter, Ava Renegar; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Rev. Dana Crowell and Rev. Charles Edgar officiating. Burial will follow in Medium Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
