Marshall County Commissioner R.L. Williams speaks to the crowd gathered at the Marshall County Courthouse in commemoration of Dr. Martin Luther King Day on Monday. The annual unity in the community march marked the 50th anniversary of the Marshall County NAACP chapter and almost 50 years since the assassination of King. Marchers braved a chilly day for the walk from Ransom Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church to the square in honor of King and to hear speakers, including Marshall County Mayor Joe Boyd Liggett, Lewisburg Mayor Jim Bingham, and Junior Miss Marshall County Jade Anderson, touch on his continuing legacy and on the need to persevere with his message on facing hate with love.
