Nolensville blows out Rockets in D12-AA consolation game
The Forrest Rockets have gone into a downward slide at the wrong time.
After winning the regular season District 12-AA title, the Rockets have lost three straight games, including an 87-47 blowout loss to Nolensville in Monday night’s tournament consolation game at Pulaski.
It was the largest margin in a loss since falling 79-40 to Larue County, Kentucky in the Smokey Mountain Christmas Classic at Gatlinburg last season.
Nolensville had four players in double figures in the scoring column with Nate Bloedorn leading the way with 21 points, followed by Hudson Stromen (19), Brandon Wharton (17), and Zach Campbell (16).
Ryley McClaran had 24 points to lead the Rockets and Jacob Rich was also in double figures with 13.
With the loss, Forrest (12-17) travels to Fairview on Saturday night to take on the District 11-AA champion Yellowjackets (23-6) in the first round of the Region 6-AA Tournament.
Forrest led 5-4 early in the first period versus Nolensville on a Jacob Rich 3-pointer before things went south in a hurry.
The Knights held an 18-7 lead after the first quarter before pummeling the Rockets by putting up 39 points in the second quarter to lead 57-24 at the half.
Nolensville once again outscored Forrest 22-13 in the third quarter and early in the fourth period two Nathan Foutch free throws made it 84-38, invoking the 35-point mercy rule and a running clock the remainder of the contest.
Rich capped off a big senior season being named to the All-Academic, All-District, and All-Tournament Team, while McClaran was voted to the All-Tournament Team.
