The Forrest Middle School Rockets traveled to Unionville Monday for the season opener and hammered the Vikings 16-0 in a five-inning, run-rule win.

Kaine Moses and Riley Durbin combined for a no-hitter with Moses striking out eight and walking none and Durbin whiffed three Vikings and issued one free pass in the contest.

FMS catcher Cason Warner led the offensive attack with a 2-for-3 and five RBI effort at the plate, including an inside the park homerun in the top of the fourth inning.

The Vikings helped the Rockets’ cause by committing nine errors in the field.

Clayton Clarke knocks in a run in the first inning for the Rockets, who shutout Community 16-0 on opening day Monday night at Unionville.

Forrest scored three times in the first inning as Warner and Clayton Clarke knocked in one run apiece.

Moses struck out the side in order in the bottom of the first and the Rockets came up with five more runs in the second inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

The lone RBI in the frame came on a bases loaded walk to Moses as the Vikings committed two errors in the inning and also allowed runs to cross the plate on a wild pitch and a passed ball.

Moses walked Community’s Lantz Peoples to lead off the bottom of the second inning before striking out the next three Vikings’ batters in order.

Forrest added three more unearned runs in the top of the third inning as Andrew Timmons, Moses, and Warner all crossed the plate due to Community miscues.

James Beech finally got the bat on the ball for the Vikings, popping out to FMS second baseman Ryan Meglis to lead off the bottom third inning before Moses whiffed the next two Vikings to send the game to the fourth inning.

The Rockets exploded with five more runs in the top of the frame as Durbin, John Dippold, and Bryson Smith had consecutive hits in order to load the bases.

Durbin crossed home plate on a wild pitch to make it 12-0, Timmons drove in Dippold with a fielder’s choice RBI, and a Community fielding error sent Smith to the plate.

FMS catcher Cason Warner went 2-for-3 with a homerun and five RBIs.

Warner followed with a shot to the fence in right field and he raced around the bases, following Moses to the plate to make it 16-0.

Durbin came to the hill in the bottom of the fourth inning and set down Community 1-2-3 with Bowyer saving the no-hitter when he made a nice scoop to his right and threw to Durbin covering the bag for the second out in the frame.

FMS did not score in the top of the fifth inning and Durbin closed out the no-hitter and the win for the Rockets in the home half of the frame.

Riley Durbin had two hits and pitched the final two innings in a combined no-hitter for the Rockets.
