FMS sweeps twin bill over Cornersville

Forrest Middle School (FMS) hosted Cornersville Middle School CMS) on Tuesday at Chapel Hill and the Rockets came up with a sweep over the Bulldogs with a 5-0 win in game one and a 12-3 triumph in game two.

Kain Moses tossed a one-hitter in the first game, striking out 10 and walking three CMS batters.

Forrest managed just three hits in the game with Andrew Timmons, John Randle Dippold, and Braydon Bowyer all coming up with one base knock apiece.

Cornersville’s Daniel Sellers had one hit in both games of a doubleheader versus FMS Tuesday at Chapel Hill.

In the top of the first inning, Daniel Sellers banged a two-out single for Cornersville’s only hit of the contest.

The Rockets scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning, beginning with a Dippold leadoff triple and a CMS error to make it 1-0.

Bryson Smith walked, stole second, and scored on another Bulldog error to make it 2-0 before Moses knocked in a run with sacrifice fly and Bowyer made it a 4-0 contest with an RBI single to left field.

Cornersville managed one baserunner in the second, third, and fourth innings, but could not push a run across against Moses.

The Rockets scored an unearned run in the second inning and did not score again.

CMS tried to rally in the top of the fifth inning as Tanner Mullins and Aaron Goan walked and were on base with two outs, but Moses struck out the last batter to end the game.

FMS was the visiting team in game two and did not score in the top of the first inning.

CMS first baseman Tanner Mullins came up with several good plays in the field for the Bulldogs.

Cornersville also did not score in the home half of the first inning and neither team crossed the plate in the second.

Forrest scored an unearned in the top of the third inning to make it a 1-0 contest.

Bowyer, who finished with a complete game win on the mound for FMS in the second game, got out of a one-on, one-out situation in the home half of the inning on a line drive double play back to the hill.

Forrest broke the game wide open in the top of the fourth inning, scoring four runs on just one hit, an RBI single by Riley Durbin.

Three bases on balls, two errors, and a wild pitch accounted for the other three runs in the frame.

Twelve bases on balls and five errors in the game hurt the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs finally got some offense going in the bottom of the fourth inning as Sellers led off the frame with a double to center field and Logan Hinzman walked before both runner moved up on a passed ball.

Sellers came home on an RBI single by Skylar Davis and after Tanner Mullins walked, another run scored a steal of home before Hayden Luna ripped an RBI single to right field.

Bowyer reared back for an inning ending strikeout and in the top of the fifth inning, FMS blew the game open with seven runs.

Bowyer, Durbin, Smith, and Moses all had base hits in the big frame with Moses driving in two with a triple and Smith knocking in one runner with a single to left field.

Bowyer took the 12-3 lead to the bottom the inning and gave up a two-out hit to Sellers before a game-ending strikeout.

Bowyer finished his stellar stint on the mound with seven strikeouts and three bases on balls.
