The Forrest Lady Rockets entertained Nolensville Thursday night at the Field of Dreams in Chapel Hill and the Lady Knights got a heavy dose of some solid pitching by Lauren Gillespie and Ashley Milligan, who combined for a one-hit 6-0 shutout win in the circle.

“We have got to get both of them enough time and it has been working well and they did OK,” Forrest coach Becky Cheatham said. “I’m also pleased we got some other players in the game that hadn’t got to play and they did well.”

Lauren Gillespie picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Rockets, tossing the first three innings.

Gillespie picked up the win, giving up one hit in three innings of work before Milligan came on in the fourth inning and tossed no-hit ball the rest of the way to earn the save.

Forrest had nine hits off two Nolensville pitchers as Kaitlin Leverette continued her hot hitting streak with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate, including a two-run triple, while Zoe Long posted a 2-for-3 performance with a two-run single.

Karley Daughrity rips a base hit in the top of the seventh inning for the Lady Rockets.

Karley Daughrity, Laura Mealer, Kennedy Gillespie and Kayla Gillespie (RBI) all had one hit apiece for Forrest.

“I think the pitcher (Nolensville’s Ainsley Ambrose) got to us, we need to work on being more patient when we have a slower pitcher,” Cheatham said. “She did a good job, she didn’t walk many of us and she only hit one and kept us off balance, so we have just got to get better at that.”

Ally Blanton reached base twice on a hit by pitch and fielder’s choice and scored two runs.

There was no scoring in the first inning and Lauren Gillespie worked her way out of a two-on, two-out jam in the top of the first inning before the Lady Rockets got on the board in the home half of the frame.

Ally Blanton got hit by a pitch with one out and Long followed with an infield single and she went to second base and Blanton took third on a Nolensville throwing error.

Leverette came up and drilled a two-run triple to the gap in right/center field to give Forrest all the runs they would need.

Lauren Gillespie struck out the first two batters she faced in the bottom of the second before walking two batters and hitting another to load the bases, but escaped unscathed with an inning-ending strikeout.

Zoe Long strokes a two-run single in the third inning for the Lady Rockets, who beat Nolensville 6-0 at Chapel Hill Thursday night.

Forrest loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the inning and it looked like Nolensville was going to escape trouble with a pair of force plays at home before Long busted a two-run single up the middle and Leverette followed with an RBI single to make it a 5-0 contest.

“She (Long) makes things happen and is an exciting player and once you get that momentum going, sometimes you’re hard to stop,” Cheatham said. “I expect her to do that, she usually is easily motivated and when I tell her what we need, more often than not she gets it done.”

Milligan came on for Lauren Gillespie in the top of the fourth inning and held the Lady Knights in check.

Mealer banged a one-out single in the bottom of the inning and went to second on a fielder’s choice by Kennedy Gillespie before twin sis Kayla drilled an RBI double to give Forrest a 6-0 lead.

Milligan only allowed one baserunner the rest of the way and the Lady Rockets could not push any more runs across in the District 12-AA win.

Forrest third baseman Ally Blanton fires to first base for the second out of the first inning versus Nolensville.

Forrest (18-1, 7-0) beat Marshall County 4-3 at Lewisburg Friday night and were one win away from clinching the district title as they travelled to Giles County last night.

Kayla Gillespie lays down a perfect sacrifice bunt in Forrest’s three-run third inning.
