The two-time Class A state champion Forrest Lady Rockets took a big step towards another deep postseason run when they travelled to Giles County Monday night and beat the Lady Bobcats 7-0 to claim the newly formed District 12-AA title.

With the win, Forrest (19-1, 8-0) took a three-game lead over second place Marshall County (12-7, 5-3) with two league games remaining.

Community (7-7, 4-5) is third, Murfreesboro Central Magnet (11-8, 4-5) fourth, Giles County (5-9-1, 2-6) fifth, and Nolensville (2-12, 1-6) is in last place.

The District 12-AA Tournament will be at the site of the highest seed throughout.

Forrest banged out 10 hits at Pulaski in Monday night’s win with Jenna Blanton and Ally Blanton getting two hits apiece, while Anna Blanton, Kaitlin Leverette, Carson Warner, Laura Mealer, Jasmine Runk, and Kayla Gillespie all came up with one safety apiece.

Lauren Gillespie picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Rockets, who will be the number one seed and host the District 12-AA Tournament throughout.

Lauren Gillespie picked up the win in the circle for Forrest as coach Becky Cheatham staid with the script when Ashley Milligan came on to finish the shutout.

Gillespie tossed the first four innings, giving up three hits, striking out one and walking two Lady Bobcats’ batter and Milligan pitched the final three innings and gave up two hits, struck out one and also walked two.

The Lady Rockets put up a run in the top of the first inning as Leverette led off the contest with a base hit and was sacrificed to second by Jenna Blanton before Warner knocked in Leverette with an RBI single to centerfield.

Gillespie set down Giles County in order in the bottom of the first inning and Forrest added three more runs in the top of the second when Ally and Jenna Blanton singled and Warner was hit by a pitch before Mealer drilled a bases-clearing triple for a 5-0 lead.

Gillespie pitcher her way out of two innings with two runners on base in the second and third frames and one on in the fourth before giving way to Milligan, who tossed a 1-2-3 fifth and allowed a single base runner in the sixth and seventh.

Forrest posted three more runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run triple by Ally Blanton and an RBI single by Jenna Blanton.

The Lady Rockets travel to Nolensville on Tuesday in search of win number 20 and finish up their district slate on Thursday when they host Community.
