Tigerettes comeback secures District 8-AAA title

The Marshall County High School girls tennis team pulled off a comeback for the ages Thursday at Tullahoma in the finals of the District 8-AAA Tournament as they fought off match point before storming back to win.

The number-two seeded Tigerettes had lost 5-2 to top-seeded Tullahoma earlier in the season and were trailing 0-3 after the first three singles matches, facing defeat if they lost just one more point.

Anna Claire Moses came up huge, breathing a little life into the Tigerettes when she won her number four-seed singles match 8-6.

Reese Michael was also down in her number-five singles match, but rallied to win in a tiebreaker 9-8. About the same time, Alexa Hooten and McKenna Hunter won their number one doubles match 8-6.

The tournament outcome rested on the shoulders of Annie Haynes and Anna Claire Moses in the number-two seed doubles match and the duo finished off the Lady Wildcats 8-3 to seal Marshall County’s first district tournament title in 11 years.

The Tigerettes will be back in action on Thursday when the host the Division I, Large Division, Region 4 Tournament at the Lewisburg Recreation Center at 4 p.m.
