After a grueling four-game winning streak, the Forrest Rockets ran low on fuel in the District 12-AA title game, losing 7-3 to Giles County Wednesday night at Nolensville.

“It’s like I said last night, the fight in those 25 guys in that dugout is just unreal, they fought through 42 innings of baseball since Sunday,” Forrest coach Bart Joyce said. “They fought hard, played hard, but just came up a little short.”

Dustin Brashear slams a two-run double in the first inning to put the Rockets in the lead.

Forrest took an early first inning lead on a Dustin Brashear two-run double before the Bobcats came back to tie the game in the bottom of the second inning on a Sam Hatfield sacrifice fly and a Rocket error.

Brashear struck again in the top of the third inning, scorching another double that scored Dylan Eady from first base to make it 3-2.

Giles County wasted little time tying it up again as Max Jett picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the home half of the inning against Forrest reliever Lane Allen.

Dylan Eady rounds second base and turns on the jets to score the Rockets’ third run of the game on a Dustin Brashear third-inning double.

Allen came on for Brashear, who started the game, but only had 50 pitches at his disposal.

Allen stymied the Bobcats in the fourth and fifth innings and Giles County starting pitcher Ben Peoples gained more steam as the game went on, holding the Rockets in check.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the bottom fell out on the Rockets as the Bobcats plated four runs on RBIs by Seth Waters, Mack Young, and Dylan Carmen.

The fourth run scored on a Forrest error.

Drew Daughrity walked to lead off the top of the seventh inning and Jaylen Smith singled with one out to put Rocket baserunners on first and second before Peoples finished off his complete game by striking out the final two Forrest batters.

Giles County (21-8) hosts Stewart County (22-5), while the Rockets (19-15) travel to Creekwood (16-15) in the first round of the Region 6-AA Tournament on Monday night.

“It’s a little different feel this year,” Joyce said. “The last few years we have played at home, but this year we will go on the road.”

“We have been on the road the last four days and they know how to handle the road games and they can do it and know how to play. We will travel wherever we have to go and get after it.”

Creekwood beat Stewart County 2-0 in Wednesday night’s District 11-AA title game.

The winners of Monday night’s game are guaranteed a state sectional contest and the losers are eliminated from postseason play.

“I just can’t say enough about their fight and their will to win, we have played from behind to win and we have played with the lead and all different aspects of the game,” Joyce added. “They have covered it all and the coaching staff is really proud of these boys and we are looking forward to Monday.”
