Hits were hard to come by as both teams managed just one base knock apiece, both coming in the third inning with Hayden Lykins for MMC in the top half and Kel Greer for the Elks in the home half of the frame.

MMC scored first, picking up a lone unearned run in the first inning and another one in the top of the second when Grooms walked with two outs and stole second base.

Grooms went to third when the throw went awry and scored on a subsequent wild pitch to make it 2-0.

Graves struck out the side in order in the in the home half of the frame and Lykins singled with two outs in the top of the third and stole second before Elks’ starting pitcher Bryson Whaley got a strikeout to end the inning.

The Elks posted three runs in the bottom of the inning on just one hit by Greer as they were helped out by three walks, a hit batsman, and an MMC fielding error to take a 3-2 lead.

Grooms walked with one out in the top of the fourth inning and Graves was hit by a pitch with two outs to put MMC runners on first and second base.

After a double steal, Grooms raced home on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3.

The Elks failed to score in the bottom of the fifth and with one out in the top of the sixth, Wunderlin walked and stole second.

Grooms drew his third base on balls of the contest before a passed ball put the MMC runners on second and third.

Connor McVey came up with a fielder’s choice RBI single to put MMC in front 4-3 and after Graves was intentionally walked, Grooms scored on a passed ball to give Graves an insurance run, moving to the bottom of the inning.

Bryson Whaley started on the mound for the Elks and only gave up one hit in four innings.

Whaley ripped a leadoff single, stole second and third base and scored on a fielder’s choice RBI by T.J. Stinnett to make it 5-4, but Graves whiffed the next two batters to end the game on the time limit.
