Ze’Shawn Avon-Le’Steward Swaggerty won first place in the Westhills Reading Fair Project. Swaggerty, a 4th grader, scored a perfect 100% on his project and during his classroom presentation. He advanced in the school-wide competition competing against 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. He understands that fluency and comprehension in reading are priorities to his success in school. He participates in the Westhills Reading Program and enjoys reading to residents at the NHC Nursing Home.

He chose the book, Joey Pigza Loses Control, for his project. It is a Newbery Honor Book by Jack Gantos and is the sequel to Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key. He located the book at the Marshall County Public Library. He is a frequent visitor at the library and takes part in the Marshall County Public Library Summer Reading Program each year.

The author drew Ze’Shawn inside the world of Joey Pigza. The author meticulously writes about a young boy who happens to have ADHD with a solid center of goodness and is a great baseball player.

Ze’Shawn is the son of Zeldra Kanisha Swaggerty. He maintains an A/B grade average. He is looking forward to the 5th grade for school year 2018-2019.
