Dusters swept by Tullahoma
The Marshall County Dusters hosted Tullahoma American Legion Post #43 for a doubleheader at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg Thursday night and dropped two close games by scores of 4-2 and 2-0.
The Dusters were their worst enemy as only one of the six runs allowed by the pitching staff were earned as they committed five errors in the field and they also ran themselves off the base paths, being picked off three times.
Still, the Dusters were in both games until their last at bat.
Tullahoma played a clean game in the field with zero errors and had clutch hits in both games with Landon Carey, William Zebick, and Brice Fulcher driving in one run apiece in the first game and Caleb Bryant nailed a two-out, two-run double in the first inning of the game two to provide the only runs of the contest.
Fulcher also came up with the win on the mound for Tullahoma in the first contest as he tossed a complete game, surrendering two earned runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking three Marshall County batters.
The Dusters led 2-1 in the first inning of game one on RBI base hits by Zack Graves and Mitchell Ford before Fulcher shut them down the rest of the way.
Graves left the game in the top of the second, trailing 3-2 before Whaley came on and struck out seven out of the next 13 Tullahoma batters he faced up to the sixth inning.
Tullahoma added an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning off Whaley and in the bottom of the inning, Tullahoma third baseman Cameron Hargrove scooped up three groundballs and gunned expertly to first for all three outs.
Whaley, Graves, Ford, Connor McVey, and Hunter Haurez all had one hit apiece for the Dusters in the first game of the twin bill.
Haurez started on the hill for the Dusters in game two and pitched two innings before Ford came on to finish up the four-inning contest that was called due to severe weather in the area.
Both Dusters’ hurlers did well as Haurez gave up two runs (zero earned) on two hits, while striking out four and walking none and Ford tossed two innings of shutout ball as he gave up two hits, walked one and struck out one Post #43 batter.
Bryant’s first inning RBI double came after a two-out fielding error that would have ended the inning.
Marshall County stranded eight runners in scoring position in the contest, including the bases loaded in the last two innings.
Walker, Preston Shelton, Graves, Ford, Logan McKnight, and McVey all had one hits apiece for the Dusters in game two.
