Former Marshall County High School student Brooks Leftwich has been named as one of four recipients of the Christopher Dowdle Memorial Scholarship and was recognized recently at Brentwood Country Club following the 18th Strokes and Streams Invitational Golf Tournament.

The award is given in honor of extraordinary service, leadership, and involvement in the campus community at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. The students will each receive $3,000 for college expenses.

The Christopher Dowdle Memorial Foundation was formed by Anita and Doug Dowdle of Brentwood, after the death of their only son. Proceeds from the golf tournament support scholarships at Brentwood Academy as well as the Christopher Dowdle Endowed Scholarship at UT. Christopher attended both schools. He was 21 at the time of his death in 2000 when he and one of his closest friends drowned at Tims Ford Lake.

Leftwich has been working for the past year at Nissan in Smyrna and will complete the New Model Process Engineering Co-op at the end of July, and then return to UT for his junior year.
