Man arrested after overnight shooting
Local law enforcement scoured the county Wednesday evening searching for a suspect in a shooting on Bob Hopkins Road.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Marshall County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Belfast Farmington Road after Christopher Keith Blackwell, 47, reported that he had been shot earlier in the evening by Joshua Scott Dodson, 36.
Blackwell reported to deputies that he had been loading wood on Bob Hopkins Road when he encountered Dodson.
Driving past each other, Blackwell said that Dodson fired a shotgun at him from the drivers side window, striking him in the head and neck as well as in the door and rear window of his truck.
Blackwell returned to his residence on Belfast Farmington Road and called 911.
Blackwell’s injuries and damage to his truck were consistent with his version of events, noted the report.
He was transported to Marshall Medical Center for treatment.
Blackwell’s mother, who lives next door, told deputies that Dodson had driven by the victim’s home earlier and fired in the direction of the residence.
A 12 gauge shotgun shell was recovered from in front of the home and entered into evidence.
A county-wide alert was issued for Dodson’s vehicle, which was found by a Lewisburg Police officer close to newly constructed homes on Trey Drive.
Searching the area, deputies and officers located a residence that showed signs of occupation.
Law enforcement forced entry to the home and a Lewisburg Police K-9 entered to home. The dog alerted on a locked bedroom door, which was also kicked open when Dodson ignored commands to do so, according to the report.
When police entered, Dodson was holding a shotgun which he placed on the bathroom counter when ordered to by officers.
He was taken into custody and the shotgun taken as evidence.
Dodson is charged with attempted criminal homicide and is being held in the Marshall County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond.
As of press time, a current mugshot of Dodson was unavailable.
