Celebrating the Fourth with a bang
The 4th of July is always a big holiday in Marshall County and, this year, with the date falling on a Wednesday, events have spread out over an entire week.
Kicking off the celebrations are the Miss Marshall County and related Chamber of Commerce sponsored pageants on Saturday, June 30, at the Lewisburg Recreation Center.
The baby pageant categories will begin at 9 a.m. Little Miss and Mister Pageants start at 6 p.m. Miss Marshall County will start at 7 p.m.
Traditionally held on the 4th of July, the pageants have been moved up a week this year so that they do not conflict with other festivities.
Fireworks also get an early start this year.
The town of Chapel Hill starts the holiday week with their fireworks show at Forrest High School on July 1, 2018, scheduled for 8 p.m.
The Forrest Band of Blue marching band will hold their ice cream social prior to the fireworks, beginning at 6 p.m. at the high school.
Pickers Creek Winery located in Lewisburg will have its annual holiday event on July 3, 2018. It will include fireworks, food trucks, music and of course, wine. The event will be at 3 p.m.- 9 p.m.
Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased at the winery on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Popularity of the event has grown so much that tickets are required this year in order to keep the crowds manageable.
Tickets will be $15 per person the day of the event until they are sold out.
As always, there are more athletic events scheduled too.
On July 4, the Lewisburg Recreation Center will host the Tiger Dash 5K benefiting by the Marshall County High School cross country team at 7 a.m. Registration is $30 for adults and $25 for 18 and under.
There will be a 4th of July Golf Tournament held at Saddle Creek Golf Course from 7 a.m.- 1 p.m. It will be a 4 person scramble. Sign up for tee times by visiting the Pro Shop. It is $45 per player and lunch is included. “The closest to the pin” #7 will win a three-day-two-night
The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce Fourth of July Parade takes place Wednesday at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at The Acres Shopping Center and end at the Lewisburg Recreation Center. The Chamber of Commerce will provide applications to enter the parade.
Closing the county’s celebration will be the Lewisburg fireworks show on the 4th at the Rec Center, scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
The city’s display is sponsored by the City of Lewisburg, Marshall County Government, Tillis Jewelry, TWHBEA, IDB, Berry Global, and Waste Management.
