For many, the best time of year is when local produce becomes available.

Itís that time of the year again.

Local farmers traveled to Rock Creek Park last weekend to get an early start on delivering fresh produce to the community.

The Lewisburg farmers market will be open every Friday from 6 a.m. to noon in the months of July to October.

Vegetables, fruit, USDA-Certified meat, honey, jellies, jams and molasses can be sold. At least 50% of the product needs to come directly from the vendorís garden. All food items must meet state local, state and federal regulations.

This upcoming weekend is the opening of Henry Hortonís State Park farmers market.

The park is actively looking for farmers to participate in the weekly event held on Saturdays from now until October.

The hours will be from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Horton created the market in 2013, along with a community garden, to promote homegrown produce.
