Kailey Wiles, a local 8-year-old student, donated 11 inches of her hair to Locks of Love this summer as her brother looked on. She cut her hair because she wanted to help other kids who need it.
Kailey knows several people who participate in a St. Jude run that raises money to help save the lives of kids fighting cancer. She is aware that kids often lose their hair during treatment. She asked for help researching how to donate hair. The hardest part was growing her hair the required 10 inches. She had to keep her hair clean and brushed so that it would be healthy enough to accept.
She chose Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hair pieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long term hair loss due to medical treatment or conditions, for her donation. The organizationís website is locksoflove.org.
