Mealer picks up win in Post 19ís state title victory

Columbia American Legion Post 19 won the state title Sunday with a 13-2 over Pulaski Post 60.

Forrestís senior Ethan Mealer picked up the win on the mound in Columbia American Legion Post 19ís 13-2 triumph over Pulaski Post 60 in the American Legion state title game Sunday at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

Mealer gave up two earned on four-hits, while striking out six and walking seven Pulaski batters in his 4.2 innings of work. Although Mealer did not hit when pitching on Sunday he is currently batting .370 with 20 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Forrestís Jaylen Smith is also on the squad and went 0-for-1 with a base on balls and a run scored in two plate appearances on Sunday. Smith is batting .279 with 23 runs scored, 11 RBIs, 18 bases on balls, and two stolen bases.

With the win, Post 19 (24-6-3) moves on to the American Legion Mid-South Regional Tournament at Kirsch Rooney Stadium in New Orleans, beginning on August 8.

The 2007 Post 19 team won the American Legion World Series in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
