Mr. Don Simmons, 77, of the Laws Hill community, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, in Nashville, TN. Mr. Simmons was born in Lincoln County and was a son of the late Henry Albert and Willie Ethel George Simmons. He was employed with Tyson Foods of Shelbyville, a farmer, and was a former construction worker. In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 57 years, Argie Simmons, Laws Hill community; one son, Duane Simmons, Laurel MS; one daughter, Melissa Ray, Laws Hill community; one sister, Geneva Patrick, Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family members will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Hopper Cemetery in the Laws Hill community with Bill Preston officiating. Burial will follow in Hopper Cemetery.
Jonathan Thornberry, Fletcher Thornberry, Manuel Simmons, Randy Frost, Ricky Lynch and Ed Anderson will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Wyatt Simmons, C. J. Staten, Jacob Ray and Justin Ray.
