National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist
At Monday’s meeting of the Marshall County School Board, Director Jacob Sorrells congratulated Jesse England, a senior at Cornersville High School, on his recognition as a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.
More than 1.6 million students entered the program in 2017 by taking the Preliminary SAT exam during their junior year.
Approximately 16,000, less than one percent of exam takers, earned a score high enough to rank them as semi-finalists.
Finalists will be selected from the semi-finalists after an application process
Finalists are eligible to apply for one of 7,500 National Merit scholarships and the recognition as a Merit Scholar, and qualify for thousands of scholarships open to Finalists from Universities or private institutions.
Otherwise, the board meeting dealt quickly with measures largely considered to be housekeeping issues.
