Alice McCullough Strange
Alice McCullough Strange, 92, passed away Jan. 15, 2019, in Knoxville, TN, ending a kind, gracious life dedicated to her loving family. She was preceded in death by husband of 62 years, Bernard Strange Jr.; parents, Carl and Minta McCullough of Lewisburg, TN; brother, David McCullough of Lewisburg, TN. She is survived by son, Mike Strange of Knoxville; brother, Robert McCullough of Lewisburg; granddaughter, Alice R. Strange of Nashville; grandson, Aaron Smith of Knoxville; great-grandson Arlo Smith; several nieces and nephews.
She was born and raised on a farm near Lewisburg, TN, was valedictorian at Marshall County High School and graduated from Carson-Newman University in 1947. That is where she met a tall, good-looking man from Kentucky. After becoming Mrs. Bernard Strange Jr., she taught chemistry at several high schools, most notably Franklin County High School in Frankfort, KY. She ended her education career as a guidance counselor. After retirement, Alice and Bernard moved to Knoxville to be near their son and grandchildren and settled in the Island Home neighborhood. An accomplished pianist, she enjoyed services at First Baptist Church of Knoxville and attending opera with her son. But her most cherished time was with her grandchildren and extended family.
Visitation will be at Berry Funeral Home, 3704 Chapman Highway, Knoxville, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, from 12 to 2 p.m. A private burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.
