Bobby Joe Howell
Mr. Bobby Joe Howell, 86, of Lewisburg, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Maury Regional Hospital.
Mr. Howell was born in Maury County in Dec. of 1932, to Houston and Alice Maibell Green Howell Cox. He retired from the US Army after twenty years of service. He served three tours of combat duty, thirteen months in Korea, and two years in Vietnam. He served at Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Ft. Gordon, Georgia, Ft. Polk, Louisiana, Ft. Bliss, Texas, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, and Ft. Carson Colorado. He was a special warfare soldier in Vietnam and had most of his training at Ft. Bragg, and his language course at Ft. Bliss. Mr. Howell traveled to Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, France, and many other places. After all of his travels with the Army, he says “there is no place like home”. He was a First Sergeant Provost, Military Police Sergeant, Instructor, and Drill Instructor.
After his retirement, his family moved to Lewisburg in 1971, where he opened the Lewisburg Thrift Shop, Sewing Machine Sales & Service, and Cash for Cans. Over the past fourty years, he worked at Walker Die Casting, Heil Quaker, and many other places. He was a member of the Westvue church of Christ.
Closed casket funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at noon from the chapel of London Funeral Home with private burial later at Rose Hill Cemetery in Columbia with complete military honors.
Visitation with the family will begin on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.
