John Dan Webb
Mr. John Daniel Webb, 82, of Murray, KY, a lifetime minister for the cause of Christ, went to be with the Lord April 7, 2019. Dan was born June 19, 1936, in Tuscaloosa, AL. He was adopted at the age of nine months by his loving parents Ralph and Dorothy Brigance Webb who preceded him in death.
Dan grew up in Tuscumbia, AL and began his ministry at the age of 14. He graduated from Mars Hill Bible School in 1955. He continued his education at Freed-Hardeman College in Henderson, TN where he met his wife Sue Brawner whom he married in 1956. He obtained his degree from Magic Valley Christian College in Albion, ID. His first teaching position was in Minidoka County, ID. In 1964, Dan moved his family of six to Murfreesboro, TN where he served as principle of Almaville Elementary. His career encompassed many counties in TN. He served as a Scout Executive with the Boys Scouts of America in Columbia, Franklin and Nashville. While living in Franklin, TN, Dan became the minister of the Eastview Church of Christ in Nashville. It was Danís dream to offer a Christian education at an affordable cost. He moved his family to Petersburg, TN to found the College of America. He later founded Petersburg Bible School. Dan held full time preaching positions for 66 years in several states including Idaho, Alabama, Kentucky and Tennessee. He encouraged many young preachers to be bold for Christ. He was an author and also wrote an endorsement for Muscle and a Shovel by Michael J. Shank who he encouraged to write. Dan also spent nine years driving for Schneider National. Dan had a beautiful bass voice and loved to sing. He was a member of several choral groups and a song leader at numerous congregations and gospel singings. He sang with a quartet on live radio. He loved to play the saxophone and learned to play trombone. He was a radio DJ in Idaho and in Fayetteville, TN, where he was known as the Morning Mayor. He served as a counselor at Christian youth camps where he taught Bible and canoe lessons. In 1993, Dan and Sue moved to Murray, KY where they built their log cabin in his beloved Whippoorwill Hollow. After Danís retirement, he became a substitute teacher for the Calloway County school system where he was known for his stories and loved by his students. He also drove for the Murray Transit System.
Dan is survived by his wife of 63 years, Glenda Sue Brawner Webb; daughters, Linda Hastings, Lynne (Tom) Connelly, Susan (Frank) May; son, Johnny (Cyndi) Webb; ten grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; sisters-in-law. Beverly (HW) Ford, Olivia Coatney; brother-in-law, Jerry (Phyllis) Brawner; cousins; nieces; and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm Thursday, April 11, 2019 at the New Concord Church of Christ annex building where Dan also served as an elder.
The family wishes to thank all of the doctors and nurses at Murray Calloway Co. Hospital and the Spring Creek Nursing Facility.
