Grubbs’ classmate and recent UT Martin signee Mitchell Ford came on to earn the save for the Tigers and scored three runs as he went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Grubbs struck out the side in order in the top of the first inning and in the home half of the frame, a Zack Graves RBI single opened up the scoring for the Tigers before Lincoln County starting pitcher Tucker Webb worked his way out of bases loaded one-out jam when he whiffed two in a row to end the inning.

There was no scoring in the second inning, but the Falcons made it a 1-1 contest in the top of the third inning on a fielder’s choice RBI by Miles Smith.

The Tigers took control of the game in the home half of the inning as they sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four runs on RBI base hits by Zack Graves and Tristan Griggs, plus RBI bases on balls to Ryan Kirby and Colton Barber.

Grubbs walked two Lincoln County batters in the top of the fourth inning, but escaped unharmed on a nice catch by Peyton Graves in right field to end the inning.

Barber doubled to lead off the bottom of the inning and one out later, Zack Graves ripped an RBI single to left field, making it 6-1.

Grubbs hurled a solid top of the fifth inning and his teammates gave him two insurance runs in the bottom of the inning as Zack Graves walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run and Griggs made it 8-1 on a sacrifice fly RBI.

Senior Mitchell Ford came on to earn the save for Marshall County on Senior Night at Lewisburg.

Ford came on for Grubbs in the top of the sixth inning and beaned the first two Lincoln County batters before settling in and retiring three in a row to end the frame.

The Tigers went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth and the Falcons added a pair of garbage runs in the top of the seventh before Marshall County turned a pretty 1-2-3 double play to end the game.

The Tigers had a busy weekend as they travelled to Lincoln County on Friday and completed the season sweep over the Falcons with a 10-3 win.

Walker Whaley (2-0) picked up the win on the hill for the Tigers, tossing six innings of five-hit ball before Barber came on to earn his third save of the season.

Barber and Shelton knocked in two runs apiece while Ford, Peyton Graves, Zack Graves, and Kirby drove in one run apiece in the 10-hit attack.

On Saturday, Marshall County played in the Wooden Bat Classic at Lewis County High School and went 1-1, beginning with a 6-2 loss to Wayne County before bouncing back with a 9-2 win over Culleoka behind a complete game effort on the mound by Logan McKnight.

McKnight (2-0) gave up two runs on five hits while striking out four and walking none in the six-inning contest. Barber had three RBIs, Zack Graves knocked in two, and Austin Grubbs and Preston Shelton drove in one run apiece.
