Freeing the inner artist
“Set Free Your Inner Artist!” was the theme for the recent meeting of the Lewisburg Study Club. The Marshall County Art Guild on the Lewisburg square provided the perfect location for the art-themed meeting. Hostesses Elaine Davidson, Trish Hill and Lee Bussart welcomed members and guests as they arrived. A table of colorful, delicious art-themed refreshments were served as guests viewed a variety of local art work on display throughout the Art Guild. Afterward, everyone assembled in the studio room where each guest found their place designated with a small personalized easel.
Lee Bussart introduced the two guest speakers, Jennifer Savage Britton and Andrea Childress Warf. These talented local young women are both active members of the Art Guild. Andrea enjoys teaching children’s art classes. She was a chemistry major in college and later took a job in the lab at Cosmolab matching colors. Her love of art increased through art experiences during and after college. She now teaches classes at the art guild on a regular basis and continues with her art as well.
Guest speaker Jennifer Britton also teaches art classes for children at the Guild. She told that her love of art was evident from an early age. Jennifer has illustrated several books for children including “The Windkeeper” and “Campfire, Cookies, Colors and More”. She has also created artwork which has been printed on notecards, posters, stickers, and even dish towels. Members enjoyed seeing her book illustrations and several of her other items displayed throughout the guild.
Andrea Childress and Jennifer Britton shared ways to help children develop their creativity and utilize art as a means of self-expression. The audience enjoyed the opportunity to ask questions of both these talented presenters. Both told how encouragement from others has been such a key factor in their artistic journeys.
