Lewisburg Mayor Jim Bingham (inset) signed a proclamation marking this week as National Police Week in Lewisburg on Monday.
The annual observation, authorized by Congress, honored police officers who, in the words of the mayor’s proclamation, “unceasingly provide a vital public service.”
Today, Wednesday, May 15, is also Police Memorial Day. On Monday, the honor guard from the Lewisburg Police Department placed a wreath at the courthouse lawn memorial in honor and memory of Patrolman Billy Blackwell and Detective Gene Leverette, the department’s officers who have died in the line of duty.
