Nichirin and A-Plus Collision Center met in the nightcap of Monday nightís Marshall County Babe Ruth League twin bill and the two teams went the distance with Nichirin coming up with a 9-7 victory.

A-Plus took an early 5-3 lead, but a big five-run, fifth inning pushed Nichirin over the top and they held on for their first win of the season.

Nichirin only had four hits in the game with James Hery coming up huge with a 3-for-4 effort at the dish.

Hery had a double, a triple, three runs batted in, stole a base, and scored a run.

Trey Warner also had a big night, reaching base all four times he was up and scoring every time.

Warner walked, singled and twice reached base on fielding miscues by A-Plus, who committed eight errors in the contest.

A-Plus had five hits in the game with three players doing much of the damage as Grayson Miller and Caleb McElhaney came up with two hits apiece while Daniel Sellars had one base knock.

Grayson Miller started on the mound for A-Plus and gave up no hits before being relieved.

Miller also had a walk, reached on an error and scored twice, McElhaney had a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in two, and Sellars scored twice, reached on a misuse and ran wild on the bases, stealing five sacks.

Bailin Luttrell picked up the win on the mound, tossing 5.2 innings and striking out 10 and walking three before Wesley Martin came on in his first action of the season to earn a huge save by retiring six out of the nine batters he faced, including four strikeouts.

Warner led off the game with a ground ball that was muffed at short and he raced all the way around the bases on an errant throw to open the scoring.

Sellars singled to left field to lead off the bottom of the first and stole second and third before Miller followed with a walk.

Miller took off for second base and one pitch later, both of them scored on a passed ball and an error to make it 2-1.

McElhaney coaxed a base on balls and he went to work on the base paths with steals of second and third before coming home on a fielderís choice RBI by Reese Hooten.

Miller struck out the side in order in the top of the second and Nichirin failed to score in the home half of the frame.

Nichirinís James Hery went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in Nichirinís first win of the season.

In the top of the third inning, Nichirin came back to tie the game at 3-3 with the big blow coming off the bat of Hery, who roped a two-run single.

A-Plus broke the deadlock right away as they put up two runs in the bottom of the inning on RBIs by McElhaney and McPherson.

In the fourth inning, McElhaney and Luttrell struck out the other side in order.

Nichirin busted the game open in the top of the fifth inning as they scored five runs on just two hits, aided by four errors in the field by A-Plus.

An RBI single by McElhaney in the home half of the inning cut the deficit to 8-6.

Sellars struck out the side in order in the top of the sixth and Martin whiffed two out of the three batters he faced in the bottom of the inning.

Nichirin posted an insurance run in the top of the seventh as A-Plus booted the ball around again.

A-Plus third baseman Bryndon Wilson looks at a low pitch before trotting to first base on a walk.

Martin struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh inning before an error and Miller base hit put runners on second and third.

McElhaney stepped in the batterís box and sent a towering fly ball to left field that Lucas Hery ran under to catch for the game ending out.
