Maxwell Football Club President Mark Dianno announced today that LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has been selected as the winner of the 83rd Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year, and that Ohio State junior defensive end Chase Young is the winner of the 25th Chuck Bednarik Award for the Collegiate Defensive Player of the Year.

The winners of the Maxwell Award and the Chuck Bednarik Award were announced tonight as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show, live from the College Football Hall of Fame - Chick-Fil-A Experience in Atlanta.

Young finished what can only be considered as one of the most dominant all-time defensive years for a Big Ten player. He set Ohio State's single-season sack record with 16.5, which leads the country, as does his tackles for loss (2 per game), and sack yards (117). Young is the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and was named an All-American by Pro Football Focus. He is the first Ohio State player to win the Chuck Bednarik Award.

No. 2 Ohio State will square off with No. 3 Clemson on December 28th in the national semifinal hosted by the Fiesta Bowl.

On the verge of becoming the most decorated offensive player in LSU history, Burrow has set numerous school records as a senior in 2019. He has led LSU to a perfect 13-0 mark, SEC Championship and a No. 1 national ranking during the regular season. He is the first player in SEC history to throw for 4,000 yards and 40 TDs in the same season, as he passed for 4,715 yards and tied the SEC single-season mark for passing TDs with 48. Burrow joined Young on the PFF All-American team coming in as the highest rated quarterback in the country this year.

No. 1 LSU faces off with No. 4 Oklahoma in the national semifinal game hosted by the Peach Bowl on December 28th.

Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama) was the 2018 Maxwell Award winner, and Kentucky's Josh Allen was the recipient of last year's Bednarik Award. Allen was a 1st round pick in the NFL Draft and is the starting for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tagovailoa returned to Alabama for his junior season and led the Crimson Tide to a 10-2 mark this fall. The formal presentation of these awards will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's 83rd Anniversary Awards Gala on Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Tropicana Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. MFC National Awards Gala tickets are available on the Club's website.
