The Marshall County Babe Ruth League’s 16-18 year old division hosted Spring Hill based Hustle Factory for a Friday night doubleheader at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Field in Lewisburg and came away with a sweep over the 16U travel team.

The Beavers, looking for their first win of the season, took the field in game one with Caleb McElhaney on the mound and he struck out the first two Hustle Factory batters.

McElhaney’s opposing pitcher Brock Gates came to the plate and hit a slow bouncer to Walker Whaley at shortstop, who came up charging the ball and threw to first baseman Colton Barber, who had to come off the bag and make a nice tag for the third out.

Cannon Cervantes led off the home half of the inning with a base hit and stole second and third while Gates struck out the next two Beavers.

McElhaney picked up his teammates with a big run-scoring single to centerfield and stole second before Dawson Brumit followed with an infield single to put runners on the corners for Tilden Jackson, who knocked in McElhaney with a base hit, but Brumit was thrown out at home trying to score.

Ty Lounsberry stroked a one-out single off McElhaney in the top of the second inning and stole second base.

A ground ball out sent Lounsberry to third, but McElhaney came up with an inning ending strikeout to end his stint on the mound for the Beavers.

The Beavers busted the game wide open in the home half of the inning, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring six runs on just one hit.

Jackson had the only hit in the frame.

The Beavers were the recipients of four bases on balls, two hit batsmen, two Hustle Factory errors, a balk, and two wild pitches.

Hayden Duke came to the mound for the Beavers in the top of the third and Jay Magee slashed a base hit to centerfield, but Magee was gunned down by Cervantes, trying to stretch it to a double.

Duke whiffed the next two Hustle Factory batters and Jackson Short came to the mound for the Hustle Factory in the bottom of the inning and set down the Beavers 1-2-3.

Both hurlers faced four batters apiece in the fourth inning and no runs were scored.

In what may be a first for the Marshall County Babe Ruth League, Naomi Hopper came to the mound for the Beavers in the top of the fifth inning.

Hopper performed very well as she faced just six batters in the inning and gave up a pair of earned runs on an RBI double by Samuel Herrera and a run-scoring single by River Rockholt.

Walker Whaley reached on an error to lead off the bottom of the fifth and went to second on a wild pitch before McElhaney walked.

A force at third was followed by a base on balls to Thomas J. Beardsley to load the sacks for Barber, who lashed a two-run double to his sweet spot in right field to make it 10-2.

Barber came to the hill in the top of the six and retired the side in order to end the game.

The second game lasted just three innings as the Gamecocks poured on the runs early and often in a 13-0 shutout win.

Carson Cheek, Preston Shelton, and Kyrklin Wunderlin combined for a no-hitter on the mound for the Gamecocks.

Marshall County only had five hits in the game with the big blow coming on a three-run double by Braden Bowyer.

Shelton clubbed a two-run single, Peyton Graves knocked in one with a three-bagger, Logan McKnight added an RBI single, and JW Beasley had the other hit for the Gamecocks, scored two runs and stole a pair of bases.

The two Marshall County teams will square versus each in a doubleheader tomorrow night.
