LEWISBURG — In the Marshall County Christmas Classic, the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs saw three players hit double figures and lead the way past Culleoka in the opening night of round robin play with a 58-46 victory over the Lady Warriors.
Cornersville burst out of the gates with a 22-point effort, highlighted by the sharpshooting of Anna Wood, who knocked down four of her five 3-pointers in the game in the opening frame.
By the end of the first period, Cornersville built a 13-point lead.
But as hot of a start as the Lady Bulldogs saw, the offense slowed considerably in the second quarter and Culleoka seized the opportunity to cut the Cornersville advantage to 10 points by halftime.
While the first half saw the Lady Bulldogs able to find their shots from the floor, Cornersville executed its ability to get to the free throw line in the second half, which proved to be a major factor in the final outcome.
In the third period, Cornersville made good on 8-of-9 free throw attempts, which carried the Lady Bulldogs to a 17-11 run through the quarter.
While Culleoka managed to outscore Cornersville 16-12 in the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs continued the efficient effort at the free throw line and added a 6-of-10 effort in the fourth to finish 14-of-19 for the game.
As part of the Lady Warriors’ late push, Tyler Reischman scored 7 of her team-high 19 points in the fourth.
Still, it was the trio of Lady Bulldogs in double figures that landed Cornersville the 12-point victory.
Wood’s 21 points led all scorers, while Ady Genty wasn’t far behind with 16 points. Jayli Childress also added 11 points for the winners.
Cornersville competed in its second game of the Marshall County Christmas Classic on Tuesday, however results were unavailable by press time.
