Cornersville soccer coach James Bledsoe has seen some excellent play from his team so far this season.
Even with a dominant 6-1 win over Fayetteville City, he thinks the best is yet to come for the Lady Bulldogs.
“I think we’re only going to get better as the season continues. The best is yet to come,” he said.
Cornersville looked as sharp as they have all season and got solid production from several players on the field during the blowout victory.
Alisha Price and Allie Rae Williams each found the back of the net twice in the victory, with Price assisting four goals for Cornersville.
Kennedy willis and Ashlyn Willis also scored in the win.
Cornersville stormed out to a 4-0 lead before Fayetteville found the back of the net on a lob goal to cut the Lady Bulldog lead to 4-1 at the half.
Cornersville tacked on two more scores in the second half to secure the victory.
“We did a really good job on the back line executing and making sure we didn’t play any balls through. We did a really good job counterattacking and putting some goals in the back of the net,” Bledsoe said.
As far as the scoring went, Cornersville had noticeable advantage on the front line with the speed of the forwards.
“I think it shocks a lot of people how fast we are on the front. It really contributes to our success having that kind of speed,” Bledsoe said.
While several players found the back of the net, Bledsoe said he felt like the win came from a combined effort of all the players on the field.
“The whole team played good together and that’s what we’re all about,” he added.
