On Wednesday, Gov. Bill Lee announced an expanded COVID-19 testing initiative, which will be available, at no cost, to all state residents, whether they show symptoms of the virus or not.
“Testing has been a real challenge in this country,” Lee said during his press conference Wednesday. “We’ve had to be resourceful.”
Lee added that expanded testing will enable the state to better understand the scope of the virus’ spread which will aid the state’s ability to reopen businesses.
Testing is available at the Marshall County Health Department on Legion Avenue in Lewisburg during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The department requested that those coming for a test call prior to their visit so that the department can prepare. They also requested that residents with private insurance try to access the test through their primary physician first, but that the test would be administered regardless of insurance status.
Estimated laboratory turnaround time is 72 hours.
Drive through testing locations will be opened across the state on weekends.
The closest are at Shelbyville Central High School and at the Farmer’s Market Pavilion in Columbia. Both will be open 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday.
