After a 5-1 setback on Monday night at Spring Hill, the LMS Tigers hosted the Generals on Tuesday at the Jonathan D. Hollingsworth Memorial Babe Ruth Field in Lewisburg and they turned the tables with an identical 5-1 win to salvage the split.

The Tigers got a huge effort on the mound from southpaw Eli Cross, who wheeled and dealed his way to a complete game two-hitter, giving up one unearned run while striking out six and walking one Spring Hill batter.

Evan McElwain and Christian Marcouiller had one hit apiece for the Generals.

Kel Hightower led the offensive attack for the Tigers, going a perfect 3-for-3 in the contest with two stolen bases and a run scored.

Lucas Hery, Cross, and Jaxon Rogers all had one hit with Hery and Rogers coming up with one RBI apiece and Cahlin Henry drove in one run with a fielder’s choice RBI.

Cross set down the Generals in order in the top of the first inning, including a pair of strikeouts before the Tigers posted a pair of runs in the home half of the stanza.

Hightower and Cross slashed back-to-back, one-out singles before Reid Mitchell was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Rogers, who lined an RBI single to left field to open the scoring.

Henry followed with a ground ball to short and Cross came home on the play, making it 2-0.

Cross gave up a one-out single to McElwain in the top of the second, but retired the next two General batters on a lineout to Gavin Darnell at second base and an inning ending strikeout.

LMS failed to score in the bottom of the inning before Marcouiller slapped a leadoff base hit to center field for Spring Hill in the top of the third inning.

A groundout sent Marcouiller to second base and Generals’ pitcher Jackson White drew a base on balls.

Marcouiller tried to steal third base a couple of pitches later, but was gunned down by Rogers on a perfect throw to Henry at the bag.

The Tigers left one runner on base in the home half of the inning and Cross set down the Generals 1-2-3 in the top of the fourth inning.

Henry walked to lead off the bottom of the inning, but was erased on a smooth 6-4-3 double play by the Generals.

The Tigers committed two errors in the contest and they both came in the top of the fifth inning as the Generals came up with an unearned run to make it a 2-1 contest.

Darnell reached on a leadoff error to start the bottom of the fifth and Hery followed with an RBI double to left/center to make it 3-1.

Hery stole third and came home on a wild pitch to put the Tigers up 4-1.

Cross set down the Generals in order once again in the top of the sixth with a lead off strikeout and back-to-back ground ball outs to Darnell at second.

Carson Henderson walked to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning and wound up scoring after three wild pitches to make it a 5-1 contest.

Cross remained strong on the hill in the visitor’s portion of the seventh inning, finishing off his complete victory on a unassisted ground ball Mitchell at first base, a fly out to Hightower in center, and a game ending strikeout.
