HUNTLAND — After a strong start on Monday night at Huntland by the Lady ‘Dawgs, things quickly spiraled out of hand as Huntland answered Cornersville’s three runs in the top of the first with a 10-spot in the bottom of the inning and took the 15-4 win.
Things got off to a hot start for the Lady ‘Dawgs with a lead off double by Anna Wood.
Jayli Childress and Alicia Polk followed with a back-to-back triples that scored a second run.
Polk later scored on a passed ball for the third Cornersville run of the first frame.
But as quickly as Cornersville seized momentum in the first inning, things quickly shifted in favor of the Lady Hornets, who responded by plating 10 runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a grand slam to take a 10-3 lead.
Huntland padded its lead with five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cornersville got one run back in the top of the fifth inning on another RBI single by Polk, but couldn’t get any more run production to make a dent in the sizable lead.
Polk led the way for Cornersville with two RBIs on a triple and a single, while Wood went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Childress was tagged for eight runs over four innings, while striking out seven.
