The Marshall County fce met for their annual Sweet Treats Bake-Off Feb. 7, 2020. The meeting was held at the Hardison Annex. Members prepared treats to be judged in seven categories. Twenty members entered forty entries in the competition. While the sweet treats were being judged, members participated in the regular fce business meeting. One of the highlights was Melba Price being recognized by President Linda Prince for being a fce member for 70 years. Melba joined the organization right out of high school as a newly-wed. She reminisced of the different learning lessons and skills that were taught by the home demonstration agents. After the meeting, members enjoyed vegetable soup that had been prepared by the County Council officers and then sampled the sweet treats for desserts. The Bake-Off winners were: Bread – 1st Franne Brandon, 2nd Delores Johnson, 3rd Peggy Hunter; Cake – 1st Brenda Newman, 2nd Wanda Burch, 3rd Carolyn Berlepsch; Candy – 1st Claudia Braden, 2nd Doris Collins, 3rd Delores Johnson; Cookie – 1st Doris Collins, 2nd Melba Price, 3rd Amelia Pettes; Healthy – 1st Anna Chidress, 2nd Betty Jo Holt, 3rd Carolyn Berlepsch; Pie – 1st Emily Gordon, 2nd Franne Brandon, 3rd Deborah Foster; Miscellaneous – 1st Emily Gordon, 2nd Deborah Foster, 3rd Anna Childress.
The Lewisburg, Ostella, and Forever Young clubs are the three local clubs making up the Marshall County fce. The Marshall County fce meets four times a year. At each of these meetings, donations are collected as service projects. At the Bake-Off, paper products were collected for the Marshall County Child Development Center. Lori Wade was present to accept the items for the CDC.
