After the Tigerettes completed a suspended game from Thursday against Murfreesboro Central Magnet School winning 10-0, they then had to turn around and take on the Nolensville Lady Knights in the District 12-AA tournament play on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Knights swept MCHS in regular season play with ace Rylan Smith posting both wins and the fire-balling Smith continued her dominance with a 10-2 victory.

“We came into the game looking to lay off the rise ball and make good plays,” MCHS coach Baylee Taylor said. “She (Smith) had her stuff going. We don’t see speed like she throws very often so it takes a few looks.”

“We will be at home Monday against Community, I don’t know the time yet, but we will play every day next week as long as we win.”

Smith struck out 15 MCHS hitters while allowing four hits, one of them being a two-run home run by Taylor Pickle for the only Tigerettes’ runs.

Tatum Garrett went 2-for-3 against Smith.

Smith proved she was on her game as she struck out the first three MCHS batters in the top of the first inning.

Nolensville struck immediately when Macy Dupree drew a walk and stole second base.

Dupree stole third and rambled home on an errant throw and the Lady Knights led 1-0.

Avery Patton drew a walk then stole second base and advanced to third on a ground out by Paige Dickinson.

After Pickle got Lexis Hall on a strike out, Smith doubled to right field, scoring Patton.

Emily Gable singled with courtesy runner Savannah Maynard moving to third base before Sydney Dickinson singled home Maynard and Gable to make it 4-0.

Kendra McNeil then singled on a pop-up that dropped in for a hit to score Dickinson and by the time the Tigerettes got the third out, the Lady Knights were leading 5-0 after one inning.

MCHS came back in the top of the second inning when Jessa Lancaster doubled before Pickle drove a ball over the right/center field fence to cut the Nolensville lead to three runs at 5-2.

Nolensville struck again in the bottom of the fourth when Paige Dickinson singled, but was erased on a fielder’s choice on a ball hit by Hall.

Smith was struck with a pitch and Gable drove both Nolensville runner’s home on a ball that rolled to the fence in left field and the Lady Knights led 7-2 after four innings.

Smith continued to dominate the MCHS batters and the Lady Knights put the topper on the cake in the bottom of the sixth inning as they plated three runs to make the score 10-2.

The top of the seventh began with some hope for the Tigerettes as Pickle walked, gained second on a passed ball, and went to third on a wild pitch.

But Smith bore down and ended the game as she started, striking out the last three batters to claim the victory.

With the loss MCHS, the Tigerettes dropped to the dreaded loser’s bracket where you play every day, lose and you go home, but these girls have faced good teams before.

A trip to Florida and a tournament in Fayetteville against tough competition saw the Tigerettes come back and start winning streaks. Coach Taylor will have them ready.

Taylor did have the Tigerettes ready to play as they posted a 6-5 comeback win over the Community Viqueens Monday night at Reese Hambrick Field in Lewisburg in an elimination game.

Kaniyah Taylor had a huge night for the Tigerettes, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.

With the win, the Tigerettes (13-12) hosted Giles County on Tuesday.

The Lady Bobcats beat Central Magnet 9-8 at Pulaski on Monday.

The winner travels to Nolensville on Wednesday to take on the Lady Knights in the loser’s bracket final.

The Lady Knights lost 5-3 at Forrest Monday night and the winner of the loser’s bracket final will have to beat the Lady Rockets twice to claim the district title.
