The accolades for hard work keeping pouring in for Lewisburg's Kayla Harmon as the senior at UT Martin recently picked up two awards from the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System before scoring four more broadcasting awards from the 2016 Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters and Media Editors' annual college media contest.

The awards were presented Saturday to the 2011 Marshall County High School graduate at the John Seigenthaler Center at Vanderbilt University.

'I feel honored'

"I feel honored to win these awards from the Associated Press," Harmon said.

The entire team at the schools radio station, WUTM were the recipients of a bevy of awards with Harmon winning Best Radio Sports Coverage/Program: "The Bench" with Chuck Hammer and Jared Peckenpaugh.

Harmon also won for Best Radio Sports Reporting for her broadcast of, "From Last Place to Last Team Standing."

The ex Tigerettes softball pitcher won third place in the same category with Hammer for "CBI Quarterfinal Basketball Game - UT Martin vs. Eastern Kentucky and another third place for "WUTM Sportsbreak No. 1" in the Best Radio Sports Reporting category.

Harmon has learned the importance of teamwork in the radio broadcasting field, saying, "It's so important. We each have our roles and really learn from one another. I know if there's something I don't know how to do on our editing system, I can always go to our Production director and ask for help. Or knowing that we can have each other listen to our "finished products" and get honest feedback helps as well."

This is a busy time of year for people in the sports related business with high school and college spring sports in full swing and Harmon is no different, enjoying the ride along the way. "It's extremely busy! Especially with the annual rodeo coming up in the midst of softball and baseball, plus spring football has started up. I love it though. I would rather be at a field than inside somewhere watching Netflix! ha-ha."
